Opis szkolenia

The course is dedicated to the ArchiMate Architecture Description Language and The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF). It is aimed at specialists, who already possess the knowledge provided by the AMSIS-Foundation course and want to receive introductory training in TOGAF and ArchiMate.

The course contains three modules. The first two modules cover TOGAF and ArchiMate. They include topics such as:

  • Essence and specific characteristics of TOGAF and ArchiMate;
  • Main elements of TOGAF and ArchiMate. Semantics and practical application;
  • Relations between TOGAF and ArchiMate. Joint usage of both standards;
  • Relations of TOGAF and ArchiMate with other frameworks and languages;
  • Relations of TOGAF and ArchiMate with ISO/IEC 42010;
  • How to better express the information that we possess with the means of the ArchiMate language;
  • Best practices for creating and structuring ArchiMate diagrams;
  • And others.

In the third module, you can gain additional experience with the ArchiMate language by applying your newly gained knowledge on a real case in order to create architectural descriptions. The instructor will help and guide you in the process.

The course is practically oriented. The goal is to quickly and effectively introduce you to both standards, so that you can describe the architectures of your systems with ArchiMate and to gain insight into how TOGAF can help you to govern the architecture. To ease the learning process and to help you better understand the topics, the course also contains a series of exercises.

The course ends with a test, which will help you evaluate the obtained knowledge.

Cel szkolenia

To introduce the participants to the field. After successfully finishing the course, each attending participant will:

  • Understand the basic principles of TOGAF and ArchiMate;
  • Be able to explain how TOGAF and ArchiMate can be applied to communicate, structure and manage the information for your systems’ architecture;
  • Be able to create ArchiMate diagrams, which can be used to communicate or document different aspects of the systems’ architecture;
  • Have obtained experience from working on a real case. The work on the case is scheduled for the last day of the training.

Grupa docelowa:

The course is aimed at professionals who want to receive an introduction to TOGAF and ArchiMate and will be applying those standards in their work. This includes professionals on positions such as:

  • Company owners or executives
  • Heads of departments in the government administration
  • Team leaders at IT companies
  • Business analysts
  • IT managers
  • Software developers

The course will also be useful for any person who wants to be introduced to TOGAF and ArchiMate.

Wymagania wobec słuchaczy:

Course participants should have studied in the AMSIS-Foundation course or obtained the knowledge covered by the AMSIS-Foundation course in other ways.

General knowledge of IT management and/or development of IT solutions.

Czas trwania:

3 days

It is possible to work on either a case provided by you/your organization, or a case chosen by the instructor. If you want to provide the case, which will be used, then it must be submitted and agreed upon, at least a month before the training.

This training is run in cooperation with SBC.

Module 1: TOGAF

  • Introduction. General information about TOGAF. History. Relation to ISO/IEC 42010
    • A brief overview to the course. Each participant briefly introduces him/herself. Introduction to TOGAF. A short overview of the history of the framework. Relation between TOGAF and the ISO/IEC 42010 standard.
  • Main concepts. Introduction to Architecture Development Method (ADM), Enterprise Continuum and Architecture Repository.
    • Introduction to the main concepts which are required in order to understand the standard and its application. Introduction to Architecture Development Method (ADM), Enterprise Continuum and Architecture Repository. Explain how they are related.
  • ADM
    • Overview of the Architecture Development Method (ADM). The method describes the architecture lifecycle. It is one of the key concepts in TOGAF and is required in order to understand the framework.
  • Enterprise Continuum and Architecture Repository.
    • Overview of Enterprise Continuum, which provides methods for classifying architecture and solution artifacts. Overview of Architecture Repository, which provides the means to store and manage significant architectural information.
  • Relation between TOGAF and ArchiMate
    • Overview of how both standards are related and how they can be used together.
  • Relation between TOGAF and other standards
    • Overview of how TOGAF can be used with other architectural standards (e.g. the Zachman framework, UML, etc.)

Module 2: ArchiMate

  • Introduction. General information about ArchiMate. History. Relation to ISO/IEC 42010
    • Introduction to ArchiMate. A short overview of the history of the language. Relation between ArchiMate and the ISO/IEC 42010 standard.
  • Main Concepts. Specifics of the Language.
    • Overview and explanation of the main concepts of the language. Introduction of some basic principles of working with ArchiMate. This part is key to proceeding with the other topics of the course.
  • Elements of the language.
    • Overview and description of the elements of the Business, Application and Technology Layers. Relations between the elements. Relations between the layers. Examples.
  • Viewpoints
    • Overview and description of the viewpoints in ArchiMate. They are used to classify and communicate architectural information according to the concerns of the stakeholders of the architecture.
  • Extension mechanisms
    • Overview and description of the mechanisms that can be used to extend the capabilities of the ArchiMate language, as to better address your specific needs.
  • Extensions defined in the standard: Motivation and Implementation and Migration.
    • Overview and description of the two extensions defined in the ArchiMate standard: “Motivation”, which can be used to reveal the motivation, drivers, goals, etc. of stakeholders and “Implementation and Migration”, which is aimed at the later stages of TOGAF ADM, which address the physical manifestation of the architectural plans.
  • Style guidance
    • Practical advice aimed at the style and conventions used when creating diagrams. The goal is to identify some typical mistakes and give advice on how to avoid them.
  • Demonstration and analysis of examples.
    • Demonstrate examples of architectural descriptions created with ArchiMate. Comment and analyze the examples.
  • Demonstration and review of software solutions for working with ArchiMate.
    • Demonstration of different software solutions which can be used to work with ArchiMate. Comment the software solutions and also some of the main characteristic features of such types of software.

Module 3: Work on a real case

  • This module takes place on the last day of the course. Participants will gain the opportunity to apply their newly obtained knowledge and skills on a real case. The instructor will help and guide you in the process.
