Alden Weir, Amer., (1852-1919) Slate Print and open to the publicEtching, 1888, Z. 51, 4 11 16 x 3 1 8 signed with initials bottom right in the plate, JAW, printed on on a sheet of antique grayish laid paper trimmed to the platemark by the artist, a lifetime proof printed by J. Alden Weir, signified in pencil by the artist's daughter Caro Weir Ely with his initials on a corner verso. The artist has added a sense of mystery by leaving a veil of ink to shroud the woman's face in shadow. Descended in the family of the
